the TABLE

Give me a museum and I'll fill it. -- Pablo Picasso
Give me a teeny tiny room in a cottage and I'll fill it. -- Jolene Marie

I know, this is really compelling blogging. Writing about a table. But my kindred spirit's who visit me here will 'get it'. We NEED a corner, a cubbie, a room, an airplane hanger -- where we can 'do our thang' and feel comfortable. My table feels comfortable -- and already I am in creative mode once again. I create in chaos. Paper, ink, paint, glue, fibers, whosits, whatsits are flying everywhere...and I need space for them to fly. I so don't care that it does nothing for the decor.

I Wish I Had Wings...

Do you ever just wish you could FLY ABOVE IT ALL? Maybe in my next life I will come back as a Monarch Butterfly.

The 'art table' is now in my room. With a HUGE thanks to Kimberly and Evan ...you two ROCK! Kimber said I did not inherit any of my Dad's engineering genes...simply because I did not know which way to lay the table down so that it would 'flip up' in the right direction! Well dammit...that's why I am an ARTIST...I don't need to think logically! That's why I have friends like Kimber :) I love ya Kimber! Without you I would really be 'flippin' nuts!

Diagnosis: Artist's Block

(click image for larger view if your eyes are like mine)
The photo above was my previous "studio" area in our apartment in Newport Beach. It worked. I built the table using an old door and table legs from IKEA - sturdy and functional, over six and a half feet long and nearly thirty inches wide. Lottsa room to spread all my goodies out ---which is how I like to work. Being a MIXED (up!) MEDIA artist I like being able to see all my art materials in front of me...

(all images clicked on appear larger than they actually are!)

Then I went to this. Don't get me wrong. I am happy to be living here in the little blue cottage by the sea. But. I. Can't. Make. Art. On. This. Table. Look at how small it is..I don't even want to give the measurements and embarass it! I have tried..but I just can't get 'into it' on this table. I thought it would work when I ran to IKEA and bought the table top and legs and quickly assembled it when we moved in. It's a nice little table. To have tea on ..or something. Not to use as a studio table. So, I have decided the heck with how it looks in my bedroom/studio...and bring that good old handmade door-table out of the garage and in here.

I really think this will help me with my Artist's Block that I am suffering from.

If I can move tomorrow after taking everything that is now sitting on the table off the table and disassembling it (so I can fit it through the door) and putting it back together I will take a photo and blog it. Or not.

Wake Up, Make Art!

"If a day goes by without my doing something related to photography, it's as though I've neglected something essential to my existence, as though I had forgotten to wake up."

- Richard Avedon
(The late Richard Avedon started as a photographer of portraits, he photographed celebrities like Marilyn Monroe, the Beatles and Bob Dylan, and moved into fine art photography.)

I haven't created anything for over a week now - and it feels just like Richard Avedon said..as though I had forgotten to wake up. I am making a promise to MYSELF to Wake Up & Make Art this week.

THIS is AWESOME!

Look at these rocks. Now, tilt your head to the left --- and look at these rocks again!
Is that COOL, or what?
I don't know who to credit for this -- so whoever you are...THANK YOU.
This was sent to me from one of my most precious friends, and I in turn wanted to share it with everyone who visits here.

Blog Fog

This photo I took today perfectly illustrates my blog of late. In a FOG. No blogging to be blogged since the strawberry pie!
I took Pop for a walk over to LookOut Point - the wind was blowing clear and crisp off the water ...which was a relief from all the smoke and ash we have been inhaling from all the fires around Orange County.
As I turned and looked south over to Little Corona beach I saw the fog bank blowing in. Within two minutes it was whipping up the harbor as you can see in the photo. I love it. I love FOG. I love the feel of it, the smell of it, the way it distorts things around me. It's almost like being in my own Dali painting :0)
Artistically I have been in a bit of a fog as well. I tend to have too many ideas going on in my head with no ability to focus...and I end up doing nuttin' honey. That was then. This is now. I am working on a venture I have wanted to do since I was scribbling notes in junior high school. I am going to create greeting cards. If you are like me (well, come on, give me a break...I'm not that whacked!)..you have started to grow tired of electronic cards ..and you are craving the tactile keeper cards that you can look at again and again from friends --- and you want to send them as well. Hallmark who? You want something DIFFERENT..something TRULY one-of-a-kind. Soon you will. I think ( I hope!) you will like what I have to offer soon. Stay tuned :0)

Strawberry Fields....PIE....Forever....

WHAT in the WORLD is Kimberly shoving into Cooper's face in the cottage kitchen???

STRAWBERRY FIELDS ....PIE....FOREVER!
Yeah. I know. Wallow in it for awhile...
And guess who made it?
Yeah. I know.
No one guessed ME.
Kimberly - Queen of Pie's

Evan (pictured below) actually got the first bite.

Because. Evan is the tallest.

Does it look like we attacked it?

I mean really.

Wouldn't YOU?!?
