Newport - Ensenada International Yacht Race

It was good to see our community gathering for FUN on the water today in the wake of all our recent tragic events in the harbor.
Today was the start of the Newport-Ensenada Yacht Race!
Billed the largest international yacht race in the world it all pretty much comes down to a PARTY in a sea of tequila - along with some serious competition :)

Do you think this guy is interested in winning the race...or maybe just "best hat" award?

Trying to capture a photo of 447 boats, filled with nearly 3,000 sailors, drifting in what will become a sea of tequila is not easy... ;-)

But, it was fun trying! Although the 'official' event took place right down the street from our cottage I went over to the Balboa Peninsula for a different vantage point - and took my photos from the west jetty park and The Wedge watching the boats getting in position for their launch times.

I was there with one of my quieter friends, since I simply wanted to enjoy the scene and take photos!

A lifeguard tower made for the best seat in the house...who would've thought you could get balcony seating in the sand?

If you are hearing the theme song to Gilligan's Island...you are RIGHT! This is where it was filmed...right here below LookOut Point...uh, huh, you thought that looked familiar, eh?

I almost expected these bikes to have a heartbeat! Don't they look like they are in love, and leaning on one another?!?!

Our Catalina Flyer comes in from the island as all the other boats head out.
Santa Catalina is the island we look out on from our beach. Can you hear the song..
"twenty-six miles across the sea, Santa Catalina is waiting for me...."?
The name of this boat sums up how everyone will feel by Sunday night when they return from Ensenada...TOO MUCH FUN!! ( and too much tequila!).

Too much tequila does not sound like too much fun. It sounds like too much pain.

And I love the bikes in love.

I agree, I think the tequila would be painful!

The 'bikes in love' was my favorite photo of the day :)

    Jolene:

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and commenting on my Walking Sticks. As you may already know, I am from "the other Corona" in Southern California. You know, the one in the Inland Empire!!

I was so thrilled to see the "Gilligan's Island" photo. We climb around those cliffs every year. We go to Corona Del Mar beach once or twice a week every summer, and we always end our day climbing around "the cliffs". My kids love it!! We have such great memories of our slow and sunny days hanging out at the beach. How lucky you are to actually live there!

    Kim!
You have to email me the next time you are coming to CdM! We live right up the street from 'the cliffs'!

My daughter (Jill, www.thehappyhooker.blogspot.com) LOVES your art and your blog!

I didn't realize you were in the 'other corona'! LOL! Small world!
